50 Fun Activities for Kids That Do NOT Involve TV

- Read a book.
- Write a short story and illustrate it.
- Draw a picture, still lift, self-portrait...
- Paint a picture.
- Paint a shoebox to make a useful storage box for your room.
- Play an instrument. Do you have a piano or a guitar around the house somewhere? Otherwise a homemade instrument such as maracas made from empty soft drink bottles filled with dry rice. If you have siblings, make why not make a band!
- Start a scrapbook with your thoughts and photos.
- Create a “joke book” filled with jokes and riddles that you like.
- Do a crossword puzzle.
- Cut photos from a magazine and create a collage.
- Play hide and seek with siblings/neighborhood kids.
- Make up a play, write it down, rehearse it and perform it to your parents.
- Help your parents cook or bake. Or look at recipes and cookbooks and select the recipes you would like to make together.
- Play soccer or cricket in the backyard.
- Play stuck-in-the-mud in the backyard.
- Jump on the trampoline. (If you don’t have one does a friend or neighbour?)
- Play a board game like Monopoly.
- Play a card game.
- Play dress ups.
- Use face paints to create a new look for the day.
- Paint finger and toenails.
- Create a dance routine and perform it for your friends.
- Make bracelets using string and beads.
- Practice hula-hoop.
- If it’s raining, race leaves in the gutter (might need your parent’s supervision in case of cars).
- Make paper airplanes in different shapes, sizes and from different types of paper, and see which ones fly the best.
- Clean up your room. Find stuff you no longer need and make a pile for a garage sale or organise a swap with friends or neighborhood children.
- Write a letter to your grandparents.
- Invent your own code language. Write the code down, and then write sentences using the code.
- Listen to your favourite music.
- Look at photo albums.
- Make your very own recipe book and fill it with creative recipes you have invented.
- Get creative with Hama Beads.
- Make an award for someone you like. For example, make a “BFF award” for your best friend.
- Get some chalk and play hopscotch.
- Practice skipping rope.

- Make some fun decorations for your room, e.g. cut our cardboard starfish or seahorses for a sea theme.
- Make people out of Toilet paper rolls, decorate them with paint or cutout paper + wool for hair.
- Make binoculars out of Toilet paper rolls.
- Water balloon wars in the backyard.
- Invent a board game.
- Play with lego or some other building blocks.
