50 Fun Activities for Kids That Do NOT Involve TV

  1. Read a book.
  2. Write a short story and illustrate it.
  3. Draw a picture, still lift, self-portrait...
  4. Paint a picture.
  5. Paint a shoebox to make a useful storage box for your room.
  6. Play an instrument. Do you have a piano or a guitar around the house somewhere?  Otherwise a homemade instrument such as maracas made from empty soft drink bottles filled with dry rice.  If you have siblings, make why not make a band!
  7. Start a scrapbook with your thoughts and photos.
  8. Create a “joke book” filled with jokes and riddles that you like.
  9. Do a crossword puzzle.
  10. Cut photos from a magazine and create a collage.
  11. Play hide and seek with siblings/neighborhood kids.
  12. Make up a play, write it down, rehearse it and perform it to your parents.
  13. Help your parents cook or bake. Or look at recipes and cookbooks and select the recipes you would like to make together.
  14. Play soccer or cricket in the backyard.
  15. Play stuck-in-the-mud in the backyard.
  16. Jump on the trampoline. (If you don’t have one does a friend or neighbour?)
  17. Play a board game like Monopoly.
  18. Play a card game.
  19. Play dress ups.
  20. Use face paints to create a new look for the day.
  21. Paint finger and toenails.
  22. Create a dance routine and perform it for your friends.
  23. Make bracelets using string and beads.
  24. Practice hula-hoop.
  25. If it’s raining, race leaves in the gutter (might need your parent’s supervision in case of cars).
  26. Make paper airplanes in different shapes, sizes and from different types of paper, and see which ones fly the best.
  27. Clean up your room. Find stuff you no longer need and make a pile for a garage sale or organise a swap with friends or neighborhood children.
  28. Write a letter to your grandparents.
  29. Invent your own code language. Write the code down, and then write sentences using the code.
  30. Listen to your favourite music.
  31. Look at photo albums.
  32. Make your very own recipe book and fill it with creative recipes you have invented.
  33. Get creative with Hama Beads.
  34. Make an award for someone you like. For example, make a “BFF award” for your best friend.
  35. Get some chalk and play hopscotch.

  40. Take your dog for a walk.

  43. Make pom poms.
  44. Try some knitting (or French knitting for the younger kids).
  45. Make some fun decorations for your room, e.g. cut our cardboard starfish or seahorses for a sea theme.
  46. Make people out of Toilet paper rolls, decorate them with paint or cutout paper + wool for hair.
  47. Make binoculars out of Toilet paper rolls.
  48. Water balloon wars in the backyard.
  49. Invent a board game.
  50. Play with lego or some other building blocks.
