Gingerbread People

Ingredients:- 250g plain flour
- 3tsp ground ginger
- 100g golden syrup
- 50g butter
- 60g brown sugar
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 egg (lightly beaten)
For the Icing: - 100g icing sugar
- 1tblsp boiling water
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 200c
- Sift the flour and ginger together into a bowl
- Combine the butter, golden syrup and brown sugar in a small saucepan. Stir over a low heat until the butter has melted.
- Stir in the baking soda.
- Add butter mixture an egg to the flour and ginger.
- Mix to a soft dough. Turn out on to a lightly floured surface.
- Knead for about 2 minutes until smooth.
- Roll dough out to about 3ml.
- Using a gingerbread person cutter cut out people, place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Bring the leftovers together and re-roll cutting out more people repeating until all the dough has been used.
- Bake at 180c for 12-15 minutes until golden. Leave on the tray for 5 minutes then transfer to wire cooling racks and allow to cool.
Icing: - Sift the icing sugar into a bowl and mix the boiling water till you have a glossy smooth paste.
- Decorate your people using a piping bag with the smallest nozzle
